New high urban center for The HagueTransforming the Binckhorst, is a masterplan project where an outdated industrial zone at the border of the center of The Hague is transformed to a high end residential and working area. The vision is to create a dense urban area which possesses all the unique qualities of urban life, in order to meet the desire of the municipality of The Hague to growth substantially. This growth should be primarily achieved through an increase of higher educated and families. The project is shaped by longitudinal blocks with courdyards and towers positioned on a grid. These blocks refer to the former Dutch urbanism, the towers have a guiding function. Mixed use in the building blocks is applied to enhance the liveliness in the neighborhood. The vegetative routes, which are car-free, increase the walkability to the facilities, mostly located in former industrial buildings on these routes. These ‘park routes’ makes the area perceived as green, despite the high urban density.
